Waste hazardous for disposal - New guidance

The Safety Office has published a number of Disposal Information Notes. These easy to use reference guides will assist colleagues and departments in disposing of materials correctly, specifically those that are hazardous for disposal.  Please see below for details of the notes that have been published so far.

These notes are the first in what will be a series of either Material Disposal Information Notes (MDINs), providing information on the disposal arrangements for specific materials/ items, or Topic Disposal Information Notes (TDINs), providing guidance on specific topics that relate to the disposal of waste hazardous for disposal.

Batteries MDINs

Material Disposal Information Notes on the disposal of batteries have been published on the website Arrangements for specific types of hazardous waste | Safety Office (ox.ac.uk). These include a general note on disposal of batteries, an example of how to complete the relevant forms for batteries, and a note on emergency procedures for lithium batteries to guide departments on how to respond should a lithium battery start expanding. 

 

Plasterboard (Gypsum) MDIN

A Material Disposal Information Note on the disposal of plasterboard has been published on the website Arrangements for specific types of hazardous waste | Safety Office (ox.ac.uk) .

Plasterboard is not hazardous for disposal (unless it is contaminated with materials that make it hazardous for disposal). However, there are additional requirements that need to be followed when disposing of Plasterboard:
