Eye protection

Personal protective equipment is always the last option when deciding on appropriate health and safety control measures.  There will be occasions though where protective eyewear is required to prevent physical damage or infections. It is vital that the correct type of eye protection is selected, both for the hazard and the individual. Anyone using eye protection must be trained in its use, storage and maintenance requirements.

The following outlines the key points to consider, including:

  • examples of high-risk areas or activities requiring eye protection. In some cases, such as biological containment laboratories, the University expects suitable eye protection to be worn at all times
  • technical specifications for the correct selection of eye protection
