H&S policy releases – November 2024

New or updated health and safety policies are now released on a biannual basis (November and May). In November 2024, the policy statements and implementation toolkits were provided for:

S1/24 – Health and Safety Management Responsibilities (updated policy S2/11)
S2/24 – Laser Safety (updated policy S2/09)
S3/24 – Safe storage and charging of Electric Powered Personal Vehicles (new policy)

Each policy statement and toolkit are supported by a series of additional resources, such as guidance documents and FAQs.

S1/24 – Health and Safety Management Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities for managing health and safety are outlined. This is an overarching summary of the University’s arrangements and will help those named discharge their duties.

This policy statement applies in full to a certain number of departments, principally where high risk laser systems are used in research settings.

S3/24 – Safe storage and charging of Electric Powered Personal Vehicles (EPPVs)

Sets out the responsibilities and actions required for the use and charging of EPPVs in University buildings. It aims to manage the fire-related risks to the University, reducing the risk of injury, loss of life and damage or loss of property and research.
